Q&A: Why The Hive Taproom Introduced Swaggle

Q&A: Why The Hive Taproom Introduced Swaggle

By Ayla, Beekeeper and Co-Owner of The Hive Taproom

Q: Wait… what’s happened to The Hive Taproom?

A: Don’t worry—we didn’t get bought out by Big Beer. We simply decided it was time for a glow-up. The Hive Taproom will continue to be a connection-focused space, serving the same beverages now named Swaggle. Same people, same bees, same obsession with crafting clean, cold, 100% raw honey-based drinks. We just wanted a name that struts a little more when it walks into the room.

Q: So what does “Swaggle” even mean?

A: Swaggle is that swing in your step, the rhythm of life, the belly laugh that sneaks up on you when you’re with good friends. It’s also inspired by honeybees—when they find the best nectar, they bust out a waggle dance to show their sisters where the goods are. We thought, hey, if bees dance for food and drink, why shouldn’t we Swaggle to celebrate the best drink?

Q: Did the drinks change with the new name?

A: Absolutely not. The drinks are still the same high-quality, cold, dry, carbonated session mead made with 100% raw honey from our own bees. We like to call it “The Better Buzz”—naturally energizing, crisp, and clean. The only new thing is the label on the can you’re holding.

Q: Why tie it back to bees?

A: Because the bees inspire us with their dedication to providing for their colony, with their joy in sharing, and by taking care of each other. As beekeepers ourselves, we know the challenge of keeping bees healthy, especially through the long Wisconsin winters. That’s why we’ve planted 3.5 acres (and counting) of pollinator habitat and dedicated ourselves to maintaining their health using organic and sustainable beekeeping practicers. Bees are our partners in this whole adventure, and the name Swaggle keeps us rooted in their rhythm of life.

Q: What’s the vibe you want people to feel with Swaggle?

A: We want you to feel like you’re at the start of something joyful. Swaggle is for celebrations big and small—cheering on a friend, gathering around a campfire, or just dancing in your kitchen. It’s about moving with intent, savoring the moment, and maybe breaking into your own version of a waggle dance.

Q: What’s next for Swaggle?

A: More new session meads, more cans in your hands, and more chances to celebrate and get your Swaggle on!
